STATUS: Used on Greek military bases, possibly since the 1950's.
FIRST LICENSE PLATES IN USE: 1962
PLATES ARE: currently American sized plates, black on white with AFG above four numbers. In more recent years, the districts of origin have been indicated by a prefix letter - A for Athens (since 1985), I for Iraklion (since 1980) and T for Thessaloniki (since 1980). Earlier issues were made in a wide variety of designs, usually flat stecilled on steel with "U.S.FORCES" or "U.S.FORCES (in) GREECE".
