PLATES ARE: Owner provided, general in design, but many different sizes and makes. Black plates with white characters. Early examples were made on thick wood. A1234 - private cars, A1234G - government, A1234H - hire car, A1234R - rental vehicle. Dealer plates are known with a D prefix, usually on paper or cardboard. The Governor has a gold crown on a black plate.
