FIRST LICENSE PLATES IN USE: 1960's

GRAPHICS USED:  Most Banaba plates were hand painted or stencilled steel, usually white on black, with either BAN as a prefix, or BAN IS., and a low serial number. There are a number of known issues with the "bird and sun" full colored graphics, to the left of the plate number, in a BAN over 123 format. These are usually white on black stencilled. The "bird and sun" graphic is now in use on the Kiribati national flag.
