GRAPHICS USED: Generally, no graphics are used, but plates (like the one pictured above) often have fancy dies or characters on the plates. There are some CV plates known that have a "European Union" style crest on the left side of the number, complete with the crest of the island.
PLATES ARE: Owner provided. Most are still of Portuguese design, with the three letter prefix CVB (for Ilhas Barlavento), or CVS (for Ilhas Sotavento).
Non passenger types are as follows:
Temporary plates - red
on white with IT and a low serial number
Diplomatic - white on
blue, with CV, an abbreviation indicating the embassy or organization of
issue, and a serial number.
Military vehicles -
white on black plates, with two pairs of numbers, prefix by DC (Defence Corps)
or FA (Air Force).
The President - white
on black plates, number CVB-PCV.
National Popular Assembly
members - white on black plates, number CVB-APN.
Motorcycles have smaller
white on black plates, with the prefix IB for Barlavento, and IS for Sotavento.
