DIFFICULTY IN COLLECTING: Colorado plates back into the 1930's are not very difficult to find, although the porcelain issues can be scarce, as well as some of the late teens and early twenties issues. The 1958 "skier" plate is also popular amongst collectors, and therefore can usually be found to be priced higher than similar vintage CO plates. There are a number of years in the 1930's that are rather common, as a large amount of mint leftover stock had turned up in the 1970's.
High end "rare" plates
would include 1913 and 1914, as well as 1919. Some plates in 1957 and 1958
were made using experimental reflectorization, and these plates are rather
tough to find: 1957 passenger plates from Pitkin county, with
the "57" prefix, with reflective yellow background sheeting. 1958
passenger "skier" plates from Summit county, with the number 66 prefix,
with reflective glass beading applied to the numbers.
