DIFFICULTY IN COLLECTING: Connecticut plates back to the 1950's are rather common, as are most years from 1936 back into the mid-teens. Plates used from 1937 through the early 1950's used permanent plates with fragile date tabs, with few tabs surviving intact.
High end "rare" plates
would include the very rare "Block C" 1909 issue, in white on black, similar
in design to the 1910 through 1913 series. This is an "off style" plate,
and only a few are known. Most 1909 issues (or actually 1905-09 issues) are
the standard "rounded" die plate - white on black porcelain, with an almost
"script" style C prefix. The first issue 1905-09 black porcelain would be
considered scarce, and low number issues verifiable to the year 1905 would
be considered rare. There are no 1961 dated plates.
