Danzig


STATUS: Former zone located in Europe, under the jurisdiction of Poland (1919 through 1939) and Germany (1939 thgouh 1945). Currently part of Poland.

WORLD LOCATION: Europe

FIRST LICENSE PLATES IN USE: 1919

PLATES WERE: Officially issued.

1919 through 1939 - black on white or natural metal plates, with the letters "DZ" and up to four digits. The plates had a round raised area in the center.

From 1939 through 1945, it became part of the Nazi empire, and German issue plates with the code prefix "DW" came into use.

There is a report of a Diplomatic issue existing, number DZ-102, with a CD oval preceding the serial number. Colors are black on white.

Of all known examples in collections, there are four or five known, including (possibly) one diplomatic, three passenger, and one motorcycle issue.
