GRAPHICS USED: Starting in 1990, a blue graphic image of two horses, and the steeples at Churchill Downs are featured on the plate. Due to a minor outcry from some residents, reflective white decals were available to those who didn't want their license plates being used as an advertising medium for horse racing.

PORCELAINS ISSUED: Porcelain plates were used from 1910 through 1913 - all in white on black, with the following distinct designs:

1910 - White on black, with a vertical KY over the letter B in a circle.

1911 - White on black, with a vertical KY over the letter L in a circle.

1912 - White on black, with a vertical KY over the letter M in a square. This plate also had horizontal white lines across the top and bottom edge.

1913 - White on black, with a vertical KY over the letter G in a diamond. The G was red, outlined in white. The diamond was white. Horizontal red lines ran across the top and bottom edges.

It's never really been revealed what the significance of the code letters B, L, M or G stand for. One theory is that the letters stand for the last initial of the Transport Secretary's name who was in power during that year.
