Navassa Island


STATUS: Territory of the US; privately owned, The Department of the Interior Office of Insular Affairs has full legislative and executive authority over the island.

WORLD LOCATION: Caribbean, 18 25 N, 75 01 W (between Jamaica and Haiti).

FIRST LICENSE PLATES IN USE: None known. Navassa Island is uninhabited, and up until 1996, was used as a station for a lighthouse (automated), which has since been dismantled. There is a landing site known as Lulu Bay on one part of the steep and rocky coastline.
