Out Islands

STATUS: Former name of the outer islands located around Nassau in the Bahamas.

WORLD LOCATION: Western Atlantic Ocean

FIRST LICENSE PLATES IN USE: 1940's - 1950's

In the earlier period of Out Island issue plates, there were some white on green porcelain and embossed metal issue tags that had no specific prefix codes, that would designate a particular Out Island. I believe these are earlier OI issues, and are most likely from the larger of the Out Islands, such as Eleuthera and Andros. These issues have the OUT ISLANDS and BAHAMAS legends, much like the later issues, but have only a simple serial number with no prefix.
