Peleliu

Peleliu is one of the smaller islands in the Palau group, located in the Western Pacific Ocean. There are very few motor vehicles registered, probably less that 150. I would estimate that Peleliu first issued plates sometime around 1984 or so, but details are sketchy. At this point, the only known issues are colorful plexiglass plates, with PELELIU and REPUBLIC OF PALAU, with a plate number centered in the middle. Newer plates have the LAND OF ENCHANTMENT slogan.

STATUS: State under the jurisdiction of Palau, which is a UN trusteeship, under the administration of the U.S.A.

GRAPHICS USED:  Plates are white on light blue, with PELELIU and REPUBLIC OF PALAU in black/yellow. These plates also have all sorts of pictures surrounding the serial number, featuring fish, boats, plantlife, and other scary looking whatzits (including the odd looking beast shown in the background on this page!). The plates are rather scarce to collectors, and few if any have surfaced in the last five or six years - this is a very popluar plate, due to the fancy graphic artwork on the plates. Recently, a number of the newer "slogan" series plates have shown up, so general Peleliu issues are now a little easier to come by.
