I've recently changed the format of this page - the oddballs were broken down into errors, tests, and blanks - I've now combined the three sections. These plates are listed in alphabetical order - US, Canada, and International are all included in order.

18101 - ALABAMA - 1959 test plate BLANK - original as shown - $48.00  

714 - ALABAMA - 1962 test plate - this one is prison/factory-finished, NOT repainted.  Standard colors on reverse, but front was done in black on brown - plate shows no actual use, front or back, and green paint on reverse was of a watery consistency.  This plate, along with some others on this list, came from a collection of test plates I purchased at Hershey PA back in the early 1980's - a rare one - $42.00   

13325 - ALABAMA - 1967 ERROR issue, Coal and Coke base, this plate has the ampersand stamped upside down - $55.00

749 - ARIZONA - 1973 series test/manufacturing error. A neat one - this plate was never finished, probably because a piece of fiber-tape was accidentally manufactured INTO the background color.  Unusual error - $23.00      

675 - ARKANSAS - 1980's vintage passenger blank - prototype, made by Waldale in Nova Scotia - unusual!- $24.00

21879 -    COLORADO - 1932 passenger ERROR plate - I had five of these back in the 1970s - until recently, I didn't know I even had one left. Just surfaced, and my last one. I've seen one of two of my others fully restored in the orange on black color scheme. WAY crooked, and very heavy steel - from county 27 - $46.00

721 - COLORADO - error/test vanity plate - numbers off to the left - $12.00   

722 - COLORADO - 1970's vintage TEST plate - just numbers on Colorado green base - $15.00  

9737 - COLORADO - 1980's vintage ERROR - with seriously misprinted numbers -  $25.00  

757 - COLORADO - 1998 "William and Mary" error - truck plate with an upside down "M" used as the "W" in the number.  Very unusual in this case, as it's actually seen right next to the standard "M". - $15.00     

758 - COLORADO - Denim graphic "mixed marriage" error - this plate has the Jefferson County name across the bottom, but the county number is F1J, which was actually for Boulder.  This plate should have BOULDER across the bottom - nice condition - $22.00     

759 - CONNECTICUT - 1980's vintage "missing die" error plate - this plate was most likely a prison pull, as it has creasing consistent with a fold downn the center.  The center DOT is missing on this plate, a fairly rare error - $38.00     

14714 - CONNECTICUT - 1990's vintage paint test - SAMPLE number, but numbers were never painted - $24.00    

18106 - CONNECTICUT - 1990's gradient blue passenger blank - there's a lot of oddball CT blanks around, this is a scarcer "straight passenger" blank - nice original - $28.00  

18108 - DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA - 1953 test plate  BLANK - flat finish, interesting plate, from an OLD collection of test plates I picked up way back in the early 1980s.  A rare one - $65.00  

18155 - DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA - 1977 Inaugural test plate BLANK - have never seen another one! - $45.00  

19071 - DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA  - 1980's vintage TEST plate from the prison in which DC plates were made.  Fully noted "Dept of Corr. D.C., Lorton, VA", with a serial number. This is part of a set of die test plates.  $26.00

21882 -    DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, INAUGURAL - 1989 Inauguration - FULL INVERT ERROR - after the Inaugural parade some years back, a staffer from the Inaugural Committee contacted me to offer the misprints from the Inaugural plates.  I got about 20 at the time, which was all the errors made - I'm getting down to the last few, so here's your chance! - Number BPPA-9 - nice as shown - $62.00    

21860 -    FLORIDA - Prison shop PROTOTYPE - this is one of four plates that were turned up by avid plate-hound Eric Tanner back in the day. It's a flat aluminum blank, that was hand painted to show the layout of the older permanent County Motorcycle plates used in Florida. From the design, it probably dates to the 60s or so. NOT a movie or TV prop - this is a plate shop reference plate, and my last one - an interesting Florida series - $65.00

764 - FLORIDA - 1974 passenger car PLANCHET STRIKE ERROR - small piece of scrap metal is struck into the finished plate, and the orange is machine rollered over the piece. - $16.00    

766 - FLORIDA - 1974 design variance - two Mobile Home plates, close in number - one has the state name at the top, one at the bottom.  I believe the top plate shown would be the error.  If memory serves, this is a set of test plates from the prison where the plates were made. - $46.00 for both.    

767 - FLORIDA - 1974 error - plate number is stamped crooked - $21.00    

11539 - FLORIDA - 1975 error - border is stamped off center - $12.00  

10811 - FLORIDA - 1975 error - misaligned border as shown - $14.00

782 - IOWA - 1978 "end of roll" error - connecting layer runs through the "C" - unused plate - $11.00    

18541 - IOWA - 1979 PROTOTYPE - basically the original design of the reflectorized debossed series that was used, along with the embossed series.  This one has the generic "COUNTY NAME" across the bottom, and the nifty "NEW 179" plate number - $48.00  

1586- IOWA - 1979 truck FULL INVERT ERROR - Iowa is one of the last states that I landed in my invert set, and I've only ever seen three in existence.  This is one of a truck pair that has recently surfaced, and I have a passenger plate from the same year in my collection.  USED condition! - $95.00 (or will trade plus $55.00 for an invert I need)

738 - NEW MEXICO - 1951-1954 series test plate - all green, with no ZIA/Sun symbol in the center - another hard to find plate from the old collection of test plates I bought years ago.  Back is unfinished/bare metal, as is the case with many test plates.  Size is 6" x 13.5" - $52.00   

841 - NEW MEXICO - 1958 embossing error - border is stamped too far up and to the left, resulting in cut-off lip on the left edge, and a wide border on the right.  A nice '58 NM as well, with a great number - $33.00    

842 - NEW MEXICO - 1974 Dealer plate - base date was re-stamped from a "72" to a "73" - $27.00     

845 - NEW MEXICO - 1985 die error - "H" is inverted - $9.00    

21896 -    NEW MEXICO - 1984 passenger, error plate - has the upside down M for the W - $9.00

846 - NEW MEXICO - 1985 series plate, with missing hyphen.  I'm not sure what type this plate even is, but it was originally marked "missing hyphen", so I'll go with that for now - $13.00     

18129 - NEW MEXICO - 1990's vintage passenger test plate BLANK - $36.00  

847 - NEW YORK - 1970's vintage error - here's a very tough state for these oddball-errors - this one has TWO sets of bolt holes stamped into the bottom - doesn't look used - $26.00     

18130 - NEW YORK - 1980's vintage Liberty test plate BLANK - I've had a few of these over the years, but this is the best condition example, pulled from my collection - $35.00  

850 - NORTH DAKOTA - 1970 manufacturing error - this one has freaky forced wrinkles in the background scotchlite - not the most drastic error ever, but ND is notoriously tough for any type of misprints.  - $24.00     

18132 - NORTH DAKOTA - 1980's vintage passenger test plate BLANK - again, only one I've ever seen - $46.00  

19193 - NORTHWEST TERRITORIES  - 1990s vintage BLANK bear plate, from the great collection of the late Shib Pixley - this is the only NWT blank that I know of that escaped from the plate shop - has the telltale dark grey backcolor - condition as shown, only ONE! - $67.00  

18570 - OHIO - 1917 ERROR - one of the earliest error plates I've seen - this is a black on yellow litho steel passenger, but the state name stencil was applied upside-down, resulting in the state name reading OIHO.  This is not an altered plate, it's the real deal - from an old collection of Ohio rarities - $175.00    

14109 - OHIO - 1968 passenger - great error plate, with 7 in number WAY too low - unusual to find an error this obvious, with actual usage. - $50.00  

856 - OHIO - 1980's Heart of it All "baking error" - this one was left in the curing oven too long, resulting in the clear coat turning amber - front and back.  Really unusual error - $15.00     

15864 - OHIO - 1980s vintage TEST plate - this is a "Replacement Dealer" issue, stamped on the reverse side of a "Heart" graphic passenger blank - weird one!   From a group of Ohio oddities gathered by an Ohio official some years ago -  $16.00

874 - PENNSYLVANIA - 1956 passenger car die variance - this one has the narrow dies used on the 1957 plates - most 1956 plates had the wider dies.  Nice example - $21.00     

16512 - PENNSYLVANIA - 1958 PROTOTYPE- this is from a small group (like betwee 5-7) of different state issue prototypes for 1958 - this is an actual large decal, not a metal plate!  It was most likely designed to be affixed to a flat steel plate, and is reflective.  In 1958, the state ended up going with a blue plate with orange numbers, and the 1959 date stickers followed.  A rare piece for the hardcore PA collector, this was the ONLY Pennsylvania proto in the group, although a few others had more than one from one state - $120.00  

877 - PENNSYLVANIA - 1958/64 STEEL variant make plate - almost all 1958 Penna plates were aluminum - a small amount were made using leftover 1957 metal, so they were heavy, with no tab slots, and almost all were in the ###-##L series.  This one is all original - $42.00
