PLATES ARE: Semi-officially issued

Part of Svalbard is under Russian jurisdiction, for the purpose and use of a small mining community. Until recently, no license plates were necessary, as long as the Mining Company trademark was displayed on the vehicle.

More recently, Russian style plates have begun to appear, both flat printed and embossed, from the two towns in question:

Barentsburg - black on white with an APb Cyrillic suffix.

Pyramiden - black on white with an APn Cyrillic suffix.

The suffixes standard for "Automachina Rudnika (Mining Town) Barentsburg / Pyramiden.

Passenger and motorcycle plates are known to exist.
