STATUS: Used on US service personnel vehicles located in Japan.
FIRST LICENSE PLATES IN USE: 1946
PLATES ARE: currently Japanese design plates, same as standard Japanese issue, except for the prefix letter, which is a western character, rather than a Japanese ideogram. The E prefix designates "Tax Free", as does H, K, M and T. Plates with a "Y" prefix are "Pre-paid Tax" issues. As is the case with the plate in the header photo, low numbered plates have leading "dots" before the actual serial number.
